Converse Alumni Art Exhibition Showcases Generations of Graduates
An upcoming exhibition at Converse University’s Milliken Art Gallery is celebrating not just one, but six Converse art alumni, including graduates from 1959 to 2019.
The exhibition, Canvas Connections: A Retrospective of Alumni Talent, will run from February 5 – March 5, 2026. An opening reception will be held in the gallery on February 5 2026,, beginning at 6:00 PM.
The featured artists are Harriet “Sister” Marshall Goode ’59, Linda Gritta ’04, Nancy O’Dell Keim ’92 (Previous Milliken Gallery Director and recipient of the 2014 Converse Alumni Achievement 125 award), Carolyn Kerecman ’19, Maggie Macdonald ’19 and Caren Stansell ’16. The artworks will include drawings, paintings, mixed media, and printmaking.
The unique exhibition celebrates the strength of Converse art alumni. Each artist has grown in their respective practice since graduating, taking on new media and shifting subject matter that progressed from their original course of study. The work of these artists is united by overarching themes of memory, nostalgia, storytelling; their work is more than what meets the eye at first glance.
Director of Milliken Art Gallery Kathryn Boucher said she initially contacted Sister Goode ‘15 to gauge interest in a return solo exhibition. Goode was delighted by the idea but expressed an even stronger desire to exhibit alongside a group of alumni spanning multiple decades.
Boucher, alongside members of the Department of Art, Design & Letters faculty, discussed various alumni for the exhibition before deciding on the featured artists.
“The result,” Boucher said, “ is a wonderfully diverse range of ages, experiences, and perspectives that will come together to create a dynamic and compelling exhibition.”
