The Division for Student Development and Success provides a one-stop location for students looking for resources and help as they strive to achieve their academic goals. It offers tutoring, academic accommodations, special programs and events, and one-on-one consultation. In the spirit of the University’s commitment to individual attention, the center strives to support the unique strengths, learning styles and needs of every student.
Students who are undeclared or might be considering a change in major will find that our staff can help you explore options, interests, and talents. We will support you from choosing a major to determining life goals. Students are welcome to bring any advising questions and issues to the Student Development and Success office in Montgomery, which serves as the headquarters of the campus-wide advising system.
General Academic Information for Incoming Students
Office: Montgomery 205
The tutoring program is available through Converse’s Center for Academic Excellence to all our undergraduate students, free of charge. Tutors are available in most entry-level courses. Course offerings and tutoring times are posted each semester here.
We offer one on one tutoring sessions between students and a peer tutor. Peer tutors are current Converse students recommended by our esteemed faculty to help students in a specific subject. Peer tutors are high academic students who have shown proven success in your subject area of need. Converse’s peer tutors will focus on your needs and help you achieve academic success.
Converse tutors want to build a relationship with students and support them beyond academics. Building relationships helps us better understand students’ needs, establish a sense of community, and make them feel comfortable using all resources at Converse University.
Tutors are available morning, evenings, and weekends. We offer face-to-face and virtual options. We also have drop-in times where students can come to the Center for Academic Excellence without setting an appointment and we will have a tutor on site to work with you.
Office: Mickel Library – 3rd Floor
Located on the second floor of the Mickel Library in Suite 204, the Writing Center provides writing assistance for any academic subject to all students enrolled at Converse. It offers flexible support, including both face-to-face and online help. In addition, any student who wishes to enhance their skills, independent of specific coursework, or have a friendly reader for their newest poem, essay or story, can find assistance in the center.
Consultants at the Writing Center do not simply proofread papers; they actively nurture their clients’ writing processes, serve as a thoughtful trial audience, and help students learn to identify and correct their own errors.
Working closely with the School of Education, we offer one-on-one counseling and practice tests for students preparing for the teaching exams.
Converse’s Spanish Writing and Language Center is a resource for Converse students seeking assistance with all levels of the Spanish Language.
