Located on the third floor of Converse’s Mickel Library, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) champions goals for student academic success and encourages the adoption of instructional technologies, platforms, and procedures to improve teaching and learning at Converse.
Mickel Library, a campus hub for study and research, is the ideal space to support the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning’s mission to provide a supportive environment for Converse students and faculty.
The Center offers in-person tutoring sessions, as well as virtual options.
The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (previously known as the Center for Academic Excellence) was made possible by a $235K grant from the Cannon Foundation and $25K grant from a private donor to support renovations to The Center. These grants allow Converse to provide a dedicated, high-quality space for students as part of their transformative experiences at our University.

Converse’s Tutoring Program
The tutoring program is available to all undergraduate students at Converse, free of charge. Tutors are available in most entry-level courses and can be requested for specific upper-level needs. Course offerings and tutoring times are posted each semester.
We offer one-on-one tutoring sessions between students and a peer tutor. Peer tutors are current Converse students recommended by our esteemed faculty to help students in a specific subject. Peer tutors are high academic students who have shown proven success in your subject area of need. Converse’s peer tutors will focus on your needs and help you achieve academic success.
Converse tutors want to build a relationship with students and support them beyond academics. Building relationships helps us better understand students’ needs, establish a sense of community, and make them feel comfortable using all resources at Converse University.
Tutors are available morning, evenings, and weekends. We offer face-to-face and virtual options. We also offer drop-in times where students can come to the Center without setting an appointment, and we will have a tutor on site to work with you. Watch Daily Announcements for drop-in availability.
Tutor Testimonies
Sierra Godfrey ‘24 (Nisbet Honors)
“I tutor because I enjoy helping my fellow students to understand mathematics better. I love being able to witness a student go from confused to understanding and knowing that I played a small part. In addition to helping my fellow students, I enjoy tutoring because it helps to remind me of certain class materials that I may have forgotten after finishing certain classes. Tutoring helps me to improve my own recollection of mathematical concepts while also helping others.”
Kathryn Neal ‘25
“I tutor as a way to connect and establish relationships with my fellow peers and faculty. I also love to explore and try new opportunities that will allow me to open my mindset in order to become a more well-rounded individual. Also, because of my future aspiration of working in healthcare and becoming a doctor, I wanted to tutor as a way to help others at my school in the best way I knew how.”
Chloe Cleland ‘25 (Nisbet Honors)
“I tutor because I can understand students’ difficulties and help them overcome their obstacles. All throughout middle and high school, I struggled as a student, especially in math. However, through a lot of hard work on the part of my teachers and parents, I was able to learn the study and classroom skills that make me the successful student that I am today. I believe that every student is capable of academic success and by using my own experiences, my hope is to help students reach their own academic goals and to be successful students at Converse University.”
