Faculty and Students Present at Mathematical Association Conference
Dr. Jessica Williams and Dr. Joe Barrera attended the Mathematical Association of America Southeastern Section conference at Clemson University. Dr. Williams presented “Transitioning from Lecture to Inquiry-Based Learning.”
Eight Converse students (Sara Fink, Sarah Kahn, Megan Lenaghan, Nicole Lidzbarski, Chiara Mattamira, Bethany Spencer, Jennifer Spires, Abigail Sweet) also attended the event and participated in the Math Jeopardy! competition.
Seniors and Nisbet Honors students Nicole Lidzbarski and Abigail Sweet presented talks. Nicole’s presentation was titled “Budapest Semesters in Mathematics” and profiled her eight-week long experience in the competitive BSM study abroad program. Abigail Sweet presented a talk titled “Modeling Epidemic Measles and the Advantages of Stochastic and Population Models,” the topic of her Honors Thesis. The 2018 Converse Math T-Shirt won the “MAA Southeastern Section Best Math T-Shirt” award.
