Three "Brothers" to Exhibit Furniture and Craft in Milliken Gallery

Beginning January 10th, the Milliken Art Gallery at Converse College will host an exhibition of furniture and craft from three Western North Carolina artists. The Brothers: Non-Blood Kin exhibition will feature pieces from Asheville artists Brent Skidmore, Dustin Farnsworth and Timothy Maddox. The exhibition will be available to view through February 7th during open gallery hours (Monday—Friday 9:00 am—5:00 pm, Sunday 2:00—5:00 pm; the gallery is closed during school holidays).

On Thursday, February 7th, at 6:00 pm in the Milliken Art Gallery, a Gallery Talk with the Artists will include discussions of their bond, their careers, and their visions. The Gallery Talk will be followed by the reception at 6:30 pm. The exhibit and events are free and open to the public.
These “brothers” always strive for a high level of craft, wit and synergy that represents their similar backgrounds with training in furniture, theatre, and sculpture and also brings to bear their individual understandings of both urban and natural landscapes. The exhibition will showcase their individual talents as well as display the bond between the three artists.
Brent Skidmore received his MFA in Sculpture from Indiana University in 1990 and a BFA in Sculpture and Functional Art from Murray State University in 1987. He is Assistant Professor of Art and Director of Craft Studies at the University of North Carolina Asheville where he teaches an array of offerings. Dustin Farnsworth obtained his BFA in Woodworking with a minor in Printmaking from Kendall College of Art and Design. He is an Artist in Residence at Penland School of Crafts. Timothy Maddox received his BFA with honors in Sculpture and Functional Art from Kendall College of Art and Design. He is owner and operator of The Maddox Workshop in Asheville, NC.
