Converse Tennis Defeats Brevard
Spartanburg, S.C.— Converse relied on its lower spots to claim the victory over host Brevard College. The #2 and #3 Doubles earned points for Converse, while the #2, #4, #5, and #6 spots won in the singles matches.
Ive Jardim and Rachel Wilkes fell to the Tornados’ duo of Kimberly Dixon and Kayley Duval in the #1 doubles spot 8-4. The Converse pair of Tina Rohner and Rhett Smodic fought hard to edge out Brevard’s Leweller and Cooper 8-6. All-Stars’ partners Lee Cantey and Kelsey Lambdin defeated Slagle and Barrick by the same score.
In the singles matches, Converse took 4 of 6 points. Jardim won the #2 spot 6-1, 6-0. Smodic topped Cooper 6-3, 6-3 in the #4 spot while Cantey overwhelmed Barrick 6-2, 6-0. Lambdin knocked off Slagle 6-1, 6-4 in the #6 spot.
Wilkes fell 6-2, 6-0 in the #3 spot to Dixon. Rohner won the first set 6-2 before dropping the second set 6-3. Brevard’s Leweller won the tie break set 11-9 to earn the point at the #1 spot.
Converse improves to 5-8 on the season. They will travel to Columbia College on Thursday for a 3 pm start time. Converse defeated Columbia 9-0 in their first contest this season.
