Spartanburg, S.C.— The Converse College All-Stars defeated Claflin University 77-70 to open the action on Day 2 of the All-Stars Independent Classic. Chowan topped Brevard College 67-57 in th second game of the day, while North Greenville University overwhelmed Columbia Union in the night cap by a score of 84-69.
Converse vs. Claflin
Converse College open the game on a 13-2 run and never looked back. The All-Stars took a 41-26 lead in the locker room. Claflin would battle back in the second half but the Pantherettes were never able to overcome the half time deficit.
Jayshaun Bailey led all scorers in the losing effort with 25 points. Ashley Gibson-Sorrell added 18 points for the Pantherettes. Claflin finished the Classic with a record of 1-1.
Four All-Stars hit double digits in points. Carla Kantara had a team high 24 points. Kathlyn McClain scored 17 for the All-Stars, while Brandi Crisitiello added 13 points. Lauren Mueller was the fourth All-Star in double digits with 12 points. The All-Stars will go for the first 3-game winning streak in the team’s history when they take on Columbia Union College on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
Brevard vs. Chowan
Brevard had two scorers in double digits. Samantha Winn had a team high 15 points and 8 rebounds. Holly Krgman added 12 points and 5 rebounds. Brevard finished the tournament 0-2.
Chowan’s AJ O’Bannion and Joi Hazel combined for 42 points en route to the Hawks 10 point win. O’Bannion had a game high 24 points off the bench. Hazel added 18 points and 3 rebounds. Tameka Christopher had a game high 7 rebounds. Chowan finished the Classic 1-1
Columbia Union vs. North Greenville
North Greenville jumped out to a 10-4 lead to start the game. But the Pioneers would battle back to take a 15-14 lead. The lead would be short lived as the Crusaders took it back at 16-15. North Greenville went into the locker room with a 12 point lead. The second half was again dominated by the Crusaders as they cruised to a 15 point win. Trailing 8-4 just four minutes into the game, Chowan went on a 19-4 run to open an 11-point lead. Chowan would eventually take a 13-point lead into the halftime leading 32-19.
