Converse Community Advocates at State House for Student Basic Needs

Converse staff, students, and alumna Samm White ’24, spent the day at the State House with the Student Basic Needs Coalition. A national group, the Student Basic Needs Coalition advocates for financially inclusive education systems by fighting student insecurities of food, housing, health, and safety on the campuses of colleges and universities across the USA.

Converse joined representatives from other SC colleges to speak with lawmakers about collegiate food insecurity issues and discuss legislation to benefit college students struggling with meeting basic needs. Converse students shared details about the work of Converse’s Valkyrie Supply and similar programs.

Converse established Valkyrie Supply to offer supplemental support to Converse students who may need food, personal hygiene products, or professional clothing, free of charge.
