Alumna Finds Family Roots in Mickel Library Music Room
During a trip to the East Coast from California, alumna Buffie Tronnes Wong ’85 stopped in Converse’s Mickel Library, inquiring about a plaque honoring one of her relatives, alumna Mary Hart Law, from the class of 1894. Law was not only in one of the first classes to graduate from Converse, but she was Converse’s first music graduate.
Associate Music Librarian, Wendi Arms, showed Wong the area dedicated to Law. The “Mary Hart Law Room” used to be the Music Library when the Gwathmey Library was built in 1950. This room now houses Mary Hart Law’s piano, and there is a plaque on the outside door to the room naming it in memory of Mary Hart Law.
Wong and her husband met with President Hopkins and toured the campus to see all the recent improvements; this was her first time back on campus in more than forty years. Wong said that when she applied to Converse in the 80’s she had no idea that another family member had attended Converse, but was thrilled to find a family connection.
