PSOM Majors Place at SC National Association of Teachers of Singing
Two Music Education (choral) majors participated in the highly competitive South Carolina National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) auditions.
Last fall, Mary Ashton Garrett ’24 won first place in the musical theatre category at the Musical Theatre and Commercial Music auditions. That qualified Mary to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Region NATS auditions in Virginia in the spring of 2023. She advanced to the Sing-Off round, putting her alongside the top musical theatre singers among junior college women from five states (SC, NC, VA, MD, and DC). Mary placed 3rd in the Sing-Off round.
Sarye Glenn ’26 also competed in the Mid-Atlantic Region NATS auditions in Virginia. She placed 3rd in the classical category, which advanced her to the Sing-Off round along with the top classical singers among freshmen college women from five states (SC, NC, VA, MD, and DC). Sarye advanced to the Quarterfinal round of the National auditions.
The Music Education degree at Converse prepares students with the knowledge and skills needed to adapt readily to constant changes in the field. The curriculum covers all aspects of music, including performance, theory, history, and teaching techniques. All School of the Arts students will gain professional experience through Converse’s Creativity That Works initiative, which prepares passionate young artists for productive careers in the arts.
