Biochemistry Grad Spends Summer Researching in Rwanda
Biochemistry grad Melissa Brock Erkens ’18 (Nisbet Honors) spent the summer working with Emory University’s Rwanda Zambia HIV Research Group in Kigali, Rwanda. She conducted qualitative and quantitative research into the barriers that are faced by female sex workers as they enroll in health insurance. Melissa drafted discussion guides, analyzed the responses from focus groups, created a survey based on those results, and piloted the survey in five health centers around Kigali. This research will be used for the applied practical experience requirement for her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology.
