Math Major Takes on International Politics and Technology in NYC
Mathematics major and Computer Science minor Alexis Turner ’19 (Nisbet Honors) is spending her summer in New York. Alexis is part of the Bard Globalization and International Affairs Program, where she takes classes on international affairs and has a full-time internship.
“I’m a programs intern at the Business Council for International Understanding which is located in the Paramount Building on Times Square,” Alexis said. “I work specifically with programs in the European and Central Asian sector. I do outreach to senior officials to participate in roundtable meetings with ambassadors alongside, researching various sectors to see what the most important topics are currently.”
Alexis goes on to say, “I got the internship through my participation in Model League. With the help of Dr. Dunn, I applied and ended up getting a full tuition scholarship. This is a once in a lifetime experience – working in NYC by yourself, making new friends and exploring the city, while also making important connections was something I needed. Converse is the reason I am who I am today – I would not have as many opportunities or even the confidence or experience to pursue what I want to do without the supportive sisterhood of Converse.”
