Faculty and MLA Student Attend ‘Transcribathon’ in Charlotte
Dr. Laura Feitzinger Brown, Dr. Gabriel Ford and MLA student Ann “Holly” Robbins attended the Transcribathon at UNC-Charlotte. Sponsored by the Early Modern Paleography Society, the Transcribathon assembles students, faculty, and community members interested in early modern printing to collaborate together and transcribe manuscripts from the Folger Shakespeare Library for the Early English Manuscript Online database.
Dr. Ford gave a public demonstration of early modern printing practices with an authentic printing press and illustrated varieties of printing press technology. Dr. Brown and Holly Robbins transcribed parts of an early modern manuscript of recipes. Holly was able to figure out a transcription problem that had perplexed professors and other grad students at the event. Upon review by editors, these recipes will then become digitized parts of the Early English Manuscripts Online database.
