Voice Performance Major Places First at Regional Competition
Converse College and Lawson Academy student singers competed at the Mid-Atlantic Regional competition of the National Association of Teachers of Singing in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Anna Neely ‘20, student of Valerie MacPhail, was awarded 1st place in her section, performed on the Honors Recital, and placed 2nd overall among all College Sophomore Women, thus qualifying to advance to the National Preliminary Round.
One of the reasons Anna chose Converse was for of its low student to faculty ratio. “Dr. MacPhail has helped create a unique path to allow my voice to grow,” Anna said. “She selects repertoire based on my technical and vocal needs, and artistic goals.” Anna went on to say, “I have access to all faculty within the school of music, as well as with additional specialists that Converse has brought in to help educate its performers. There are lots of opportunities to perform and I feel that each of us grows with every performance.”
