Professor Elliott Turns to Dr. Seuss to Teach Environmental Awareness

Art Education Instructor and Converse grad Andrea Elliott ’03 presented “The Secret Life of Pets: How to Teach Art History within the Elementary Art Curriculum,” at the annual Olde English Consortium Fine Arts Professional Development Conference.
The theme this year was “Arts Transform the Future.” Professor Elliott said she used Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax as a source of inspiration for her arts integration presentation.
“The classroom and art teacher alike can infuse environmental awareness within the science curriculum as well as the Visual Arts and English Language Arts Standards,” Professor Elliott said. “The culminating outcomes should produce more environmental awareness through recycling programs, and a project in which they design their own Truffula Tree using various materials, and write about their designs as well.”
Professor Elliott’s work was recently featured in the Shelley Art Company’s first annual Arts and Books event at RJ Rockers.
