Converse II Grad Wins Main Street Challenge
Veressa “Ree” Holmes Monserrate ’11 may have a degree in Psychology, but she’s serving up her therapy in the kitchen these days. Her seafood restaurant, DC Style Seafood Restaurant & Sweet Shoppe, was one of three Gaffney Main Street Challenge winners this year.
Here’s what Ree said on Facebook moments after winning:
“I saw a story on the news about the Gaffney Main Street Challenge. I entered my restaurant ideas into the challenge. After several months of hard work, writing a 5-year business plan, setting up the right staff, and finding the perfect location, tonight, out of 40+ applicants, I became 1 of 3 winners.”
In true Converse fashion, Ree is already giving back to the community. Her restaurant offers discounts to Gaffney High School athletes and free desserts for local students who make the honor roll. She also provides free coffee to law enforcement officials.
