Kathleen Hines ’14
Faculty Sponsor: Dr. Laura Feitzinger Brown, Associate Professor of English; Co-director of the Nisbet Honors Program
Summer 2013
Kathleen Hines, class of 2014, received a South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (SCICU) research grant for her project entitled, Disease as Directive: Homiletic Language of Plague, 1625-1636. Kathleen’s faculty mentor for this project is Dr. Laura Feitzinger Brown.
Kathleen says, “I have always had a passion for understanding disease’s impact upon all aspects of society, and this project gave me the unique chance to explore how disease can write itself into and shape human narrative in the same way it transforms the physical body.”
Kathleen’s mentor, Dr. Laura Feitzinger Brown, said “I love working with students as they become stronger researchers. Kathleen is instinctively an intellectual leader, not only in her brilliant insights into texts and their connections to culture, but also in her infectious love for learning. It’s been a great privilege to walk alongside her as she has grown as a scholar.”
Kathleen will be attending Southern Methodist University for the PhD program in English with a full scholarship and stipend.
