Alumnae Invitational Art Exhibition Unites School of Arts Disciplines
Converse shines the spotlight on nine talented alumnae artists and the disciplines within Converse’s School of the Arts in this month’s Milliken Art Gallery exhibition. Inspired by Musicals – Art Images celebrates and unites the disciplines of art, music, dance and theatre through the artists’ work, which ranges from drawings, paintings, and mixed media to printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. The public is invited to a Gallery Talk with the Artists to hear discussions about the theme and the artists’ work on Thursday, Oct. 17th at 6:00 pm in the gallery, followed by an opening reception at 6:30 pm. The exhibition is also available for viewing during gallery hours. All are free and open to the public.
“This exhibition gives us a venue to open eyes to additional ways our art evolves.”
Featured artists include Vivianne Carey, Geri Dye, Ingeborg Haddox, Linda Hudgins, Jill Jones, Sam Mitchell, Melissa Austin Parrish, Michelle Petty and Janette Wesley.
Dianne R. Bagnal, coordinator of the art education program at Converse for the past eleven years and curator of the exhibition, has been influenced by music in a number of her own paintings. “In showing how strong the visual arts can be influenced by music, this exhibition gives us a venue to open eyes to additional ways our art evolves. I’m honored to be coordinating this themed exhibit,” she said.
Milliken Art Gallery is open Monday—Friday 9:00 am—5:00 pm, Sunday 2:00—5:00 pm, and closed during school holidays. For more information about this exhibition, contact Kathryn Boucher, Milliken Art Gallery Director for Converse College, at kathryn.boucher@converse.edu.
