Converse Launches New Cultural Events Website
Converse College aims to put cultural events on the public’s radar through a new website launched today. Dubbed “Your HUB for the Arts,” culture.converse.edu is a mobile-friendly website that delivers information on nearly 200 public performances, exhibitions, readings and lectures each year by world-renowned artists and Converse faculty and students. Visitors can add events to their calendar with a click, explore venues and interactive maps, subscribe to and share the Culture@Converse e-newsletter, support the arts at Converse, and more.
“Converse has a long been a cultural hub for the Upstate community, adding to the richness of professional-quality arts offerings we are all fortunate to enjoy here,” said Richard Higgs, dean of Converse’s School of the Arts. “This new web presence is a significant step forward in our ability to connect with community members who may not be aware of the tremendous number and quality of offerings – for no or little cost – available to them on our campus.”
The variety of events may surprise those accustomed to thinking of Converse only for the more traditional arts areas. “The site isn’t just for arts events,” emphasized Higgs. “It is home to an expanse of public cultural opportunities ranging from our Okra to Opera conference on Southern culture, to the upcoming It Was Rape documentary as part of The Clothesline Project’s effort to break the silence for victims of violence, to our annual Girls Day offering creative learning opportunities for 5 – 12 year-olds. There are events for all interests and tastes.”
The website is located at culture.converse.edu. For more information, contact Beth Lancaster, director of media relations, at beth.lancaster@converse.edu or 864.596.9704.
