Lees-McRae Wins 9th Straight Tournament Championship
Spartanburg, SC — The top-seeded Lees-McRae Bobcats won their 9th straight CVAC Tournament Championship this afternoon. The Bobcats defeated the Limestone Saints 3-1 (20-30, 30-21, 30-24, 30-28). With the loss, Limestone finishes the season 25-9. With the win, Lees-McRae earns the CVAC automatic bid into the 2006 NCAA National Volleyball Championship Tournament.
Limestone had two players named to the 2006 CVAC All-Tournament Team. Senior libero Julie Oleson and Senior Outside Hitter Amber Wise were both selected for the team.
Lees-McRae had three players tabbed for the All-Tournament Team. Senior Middle Blocker Amanda Huffaker and Junior Outside Hitter Daviana Metti were each named to the 2006 team. Senior Lacie Smith was named the Tournament MVP.
The Bobcats’ offense was led by Metti with 14 kills. Huffaker added 12 kills and Smith had 11. Trisha Reese led the team with 27 assists. Lauren Dickover had 26 assists in the match. Smith led the Bobcats with 23 digs ahead of Tiarra Pendelton and Dani Usedom who each had 13. Huffaker had 1 solo block and 4 block assists, while Caty Honey had 5 block assists. Smith and Katie-Marie Legg each had 1 solo block and 3 block assists. Reese and Natalie Burns each had 2 aces.
Limestone’s Melissa Thomas had 14 kills. Ashley Hubbard and Amber Wise had 11 and 10 kills respectively. Alison Hamilton dished out 34 assists. Julie Oleson added 3 assists. Hamilton and Oleson also led the team in digs with 24 each. Courtney Taotoai had 22 digs. Taotoai had a team-high 3 aces. Chelsea Anthony served 2 aces. Lynn Milam Michele Cash each had 3 blocks.
