Converse Volleyball falls to Belmont Abbey
BELMONT, NC – The Belmont Abbey volleyball team earned another 3-0 sweep Wednesday night, this time knocking off Converse College in a conference match. The Crusaders move to 4-0 on the year, 2-0 in the CVAC, and have not lost a set in all four matches.
Converse provided a stern test and led in all three sets before the Abbey pulled away. BAC took the first set 30-27, won 30-23 in the second, and 30-24 in the third. Belmont Abbey did it with solid defense and a balanced attack which featured five players with five kills or more.
Senior Sarah Halligan (Yuma, AZ) had an error-free hitting night, tallying 13 kills and zero errors on 23 attempts. She also led the team with 20 digs with Monica Halligan (Yuma, AZ) right behind with 19 digs. Clarissa Stull (East Lincoln, NC) contributed a season-best 10 kills and 10 digs, while Sydney Steffen (Davenport, IA) added eight kills and 11 digs. Alison Smith guided the offense with 33 assists and chipped in three kills as well.
Belmont Abbey plays at Anderson College on Thursday, September 8, at 6:30 PM. The All-Stars return to action on Saturday, September 10, when the host Limestone and Livingstone in a tri-match beginning at 11:00 AM.
