Converse Soccer pushes defending CVAC champions
Spartanburg, SC – After twenty minutes in Sunday afternoon’s game, Converse had given up an own goal and responded with a brilliant individual effort to be tied 1-1 with the defending CVAC champions Mt. Olive. After the early setback, Mendy Dillard (Enoree, SC) had dribbled the ball 50 yards past two Mt. Olive defenders and unleashed a rocket into the top corner of the goal. Dillard’s first career goal was the first by any Converse player in the CVAC Conference.
The first half would finish with Converse trailing 4-1 and they would ultimately succumb 8-2. After Dillard’s goal, Converse was the victim of two controversial penalty-kicks and a mysterious own-goal which seemingly crossed the line in the eyes of the linesman after a brilliant point-blank save from Converse keeper Brandi Criscitiello (Maysville, NC).
Converse added a second goal in the 84th minute with a 25 yard direct free-kick from Paige Kohler (Seneca, SC) while Mount Olive was led by attacking midfielder Jackie Jimenez who had two goals for the Trojans.
Converse plays their third consecutive CVAC match Wednesday when they host Limestone at 4pm.
