Double Overtime Ends In Tie For All-Stars
Converse controlled most of the first half but found themselves down 1-0 at halftime. The All-Stars had 13 shots in the first half, with the midfielder leading the attack with 9 shots. Converse controlled the ball but could not break through Newberry’s back line. Newberry had their first and final goal of the game 20:59 into the game when Converse committed a foul inside the box.
Newberry was issued a penalty kick where Megan Stubbs finished the ball into the left corner of the goal. In the first half, the All-Stars out shot the Indians 13-5 and dominated the midfield in the first half, but no one could score off of her opportunities.
The second half was not as exciting as the first. The control went back and forth between Converse and Newberry. Each team had their chances. With 42:35 left in the game (senior) Kim Brady hit a rocket from 20 yards out from the right flank into the top left corner of the goal. This was Kim Brady 1st goal of the year. The assist came from Rachel Sherman. This was Rachel’s 3rd assist of the year. The score was 1-1 after 90 minutes of regulation.
The score remained at 1-1 despite two 10-minute sudden death golden goal overtime periods. Both teams had their chances with indirect and direct free kicks. However, they could not capitalize on their chances. All-Stars out shot the Indians 25-17, but the game ended 1-1.
