Converse Basketball Assistant Coach Honored As Amateur Athlete Of The Year
Christina Volpe, Assistant Basketball Coach, at Converse College will be honored on November 6 as Notre Dame High School (Bativa, N.Y.) Sports Boosters, Amateur Athlete of the Year.
Volpe was chosen for her “outstanding achievements on the court and her positive representation” of her alma mater. As a student at Notre Dame High School, she played on the 1999 girl’s basketball squad that won the State Class D and Federation Titles. She received the honor as MVP at the same games. Ms. Volpe also was selected as a Genesee Region League All-Star on both volleyball and basketball on numerous occasions.
As a collegiate athlete, Volpe played volleyball and basketball at Monroe Community College and at Robert Wesleyan College. While at Robert Wesleyan, she was selected as a second team All-American.
Ms. Volpe is currently serving as the assistant coach at Converse while working towards her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education.
Past recipients of the award have included student-athletes who played at University of Tennessee, Ithaca College, Cortland State, Duke University, and William Smith College to name a few.
