Ensemble Radieuse joins with Petrie School adjunct faculty members Karen Hill, clarinet, Frank Watson, bassoon, and Anneka Zuehlke, horn, to offer a performance of Peter and the Wolf and two other fun pieces in Daniel Recital Hall on the Converse College campus Sunday, November 1 at 4:00 p.m. Ensemble Radieuse describes itself as “a flexible trio for flute (Chris Vaneman), oboe (Kelly Vaneman), and piano (Melanie Foster Taylor), dedicated to making a broad range of classics and new music accessible and enjoyable to a variety of audiences.” The performing group is always a favorite for audiences because of the unique selections of music performed, along with the lively and interesting commentary that accompanies the music.
To begin the concert, the five wind players will be joined by percussionist Matthew Chastain and Petrie School Dean Miles Hoffman, who will narrate Prokofiev’s beloved family favorite Peter and the Wolf. After an intermission, Melanie Taylor joins the wind players for performances of Mozart’s Qunitet for Piano and Winds and Francis Poulenc’s exuberant and accesible Sextet for Piano and Winds. The concert is free and open to all; families with younger children may be particularly interested in the first half.
