“Carmina Burana” to be Presented in Twichell Auditorium
The Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Ballet Spartanburg and The Spartanburg Festival Chorus will partner to present Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” on Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25 in Twichell Auditorium on the Converse College campus at 7:30 pm. This event is sponsored by Suntrust Bank through the Music Foundation of Spartanburg, and will be taped by South Carolina Educational Television Network for a production of “Upstate Road Show.”
Originally inspired by twenty-four 13th century poems found in a Bavarian abbey, Orff created this theatre experience about fate and forbidden pleasures. Carmina Burana has remained a popular hit since its 1937 debut in Germany.
Artistic director of Ballet Spartanburg, Carlos Agudelo will choreograph the dance. Keith Jones, choral director of the Spartanburg Festival Chorus will direct the voice. And Sarah Ioannides, music director for the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra will conduct the musicians.
