Russel Hill ’24, Converse Chemistry major with a minor in American Sign Language (ASL) and Mathematics, had the incredible experience of road tripping across the state of South Carolina with RoadTrip Nation in March of 2022 as part of the documentary “Leap and Grow.” Hear about his experience.
How did you get involved with filming the documentary?
“I actually received a forwarded email from Roadtrip Nation. I never thought I would be able to obtain a spot in the documentary, but I did know that I wouldn’t get it if I didn’t apply, so I did it anyway. After many months and rounds of interviews later, RoadtripNation wanted another “interview,” but in reality they wanted to tell me I got a spot in the show!”
What was your favorite part of filming the show?
“Besides the actual interviews and all the amazing individuals I met along the way, my favorite part of filming would have to be seeing all the fascinating ways industry professionals live their life on a day to day basis.”
“The history and beauty of Converse reminds me of what it takes to obtain your dreams, no matter how daunting they may be.”Russel Hill ’24
What was your favorite location in S.C. that you visited?
“My personal favorite location we visited would have to be Charleston, S.C. Its vast history and architecture was very grounding and reminded me of what it means to be a South Carolinian.”
What did you learn from your experience touring and filming?
“My experience on the show taught me many things. I learned that everyone struggles, and everyone fails… I also learned that just because a job or opportunity is out of grasp, it’s not impossible to obtain, and you can make opportunities for yourself!”
What are you looking forward to learning and exploring at Converse?
“The history and beauty of Converse reminds me of what it takes to obtain your dreams, no matter how daunting they may be. The ability to be a part of history at Converse and do something impactful and make a difference is what fuels my determination to be a better me and make room for myself in this world!”
