Hispanic Studies students Jhazmin Gomez-Reyes ‘21 (Nisbet Honors) and María Martinez ’20 (Nisbet Honors) presented research at the South Atlantic Modern Language Association (SAMLA) conference in Atlanta. They took part in Dr. Stefania Licata’s undergraduate panel titled “Voices and Narratives of Migration: Movements and Crossings from Latin America to United States.”
Jhazmin presented a paper entitled “Haitian Migrants in Search of Political Asylum in the USA,” while María presented her paper, “Misconceptions Following Honduras Mass Migrations into the USA.”
The panel was attended by faculty and undergraduate students from other institutions. Dr. Licata said she was extremely proud of the students’ presentations and how they addressed questions afterward.
