Read the Story Behind Professor Blanchard’s New Gallery ‘Levee Contemporary’
Professor Andrew Blanchard and his brother-in-law, Shane Foreman, were spotlighted in a feature story on The Green Laker. They are co-partners in the venture known as Levee Contemporary. Professor Blanchard said the gallery in Princeton, Wisconsin is an opportunity for him to continue providing opportunities for his students, beyond post-baccalaureate studies.
“With Levee Contemporary, I’m able to bring Southern artists to an entirely different market,” Professor Blanchard said. “Two of our alumnae, Carly Drew and Caren Stansell, exhibited in our inaugural show this summer. Curating and networking is such an important part of being a visual artist.”
Professor Blanchard has high hopes for his gallery. “I hope our space, like any exhibition venue, becomes financially sustainable, and eventually, we plan to represent artists after our first year. Selfishly, I also hope this opens paths for my career, as for the last decade, I have been quite place-based/overly catering to the South. At the moment, I have far more to say, visually, on the national front.”
