Dr. Hawk Wins National Grant
Dr. Jennifer Hawk is the recipient of a Christian Scholars Foundation grant. The Christian Scholars Foundation encourages and supports Christian faculty. The foundation also strives to encourage faculty in their effort to integrate Christian faith and academic endeavor.
Dr. Hawk plans to use the grant money to continue a scientific research project she has been working on with students. The research focuses on using reversible polymeric networks to remove heavy metal contaminates from water.
I will be speaking and sharing with various student groups about how I integrate faith and science in my own life and research
“Last year, I began working on a project with Kaybriana Spalding ’20 and Audrey Bourdages ’20,” Dr. Hawk said. “I wrote the scientific project portion of the grant to continue this work and to fund travel to a conference this fall to present this material. Kaybriana will continue to do work with me during the upcoming school year and we will use the grant money to purchase supplies and chemicals for her work.”
In addition to the research and professional development portion of the grant, Dr. Hawk says there is a component regarding the connection between faith and academic discipline. Dr. Hawk said “Over the next two years I will be speaking and sharing with various student groups about how I integrate faith and science in my own life and research.”
