Dr. Barrera to Attend Math Inquiry-Based Learning Workshop in LA
Dr. Barrera was awarded a travel scholarship from the Academy of Inquiry-Based Learning to attend a Mathematics Inquiry-Based Learning Workshop in Los Angeles, CA. The workshop’s goal is to advise mathematics faculty in ways to incorporate inquiry-based learning (IBL) in their classrooms. The travel scholarship is provided by the workshop and the National Science Foundation to encourage participation by early-career assistant professors and postdocs, for whom the cost of travel is a main prohibiting factor.
“While attending the workshop I will be actively designing an upper-level “target course” that I will be teaching in the fall, called ‘Real Analysis,’ Dr. Barrera said. “Once familiar with how to design an IBL course, I envision most of my upper-level courses will be taught using this method.”
