Dr. Elder Explores Private Side of Lincoln’s Family History
Dr. Angela Esco Elder published her co-edited volume, Practical Strangers: The Courtship Correspondence of Nathaniel Dawson and Elodie Todd, Sister of Mary Todd Lincoln, in June, with the University of Georgia Press. It is a story of the Civil War, of Abraham Lincoln’s shattered family, of two people falling in love, and of soldiers and brothers dying nobly on the wrong side of history.
Dr. Elder recently won the coveted Melvin E. Bradford Dissertation Prize of the St. George Tucker Society, for “the best dissertation written on any aspect of the American South.” Dr. Elder discusses her research on the politics of Confederate widowhood in this interview with C-SPAN.
