Converse Announces New Trustees
Converse College announces two new members of its Board of Trustees and five current members beginning second terms. Christi Epps of Lexington, S.C. begins her first term on the Board; and Marsha Gibbs of Spartanburg, S.C., rejoins the Board after having served three previous terms. Trustees continuing their service with a second consecutive term are Mary Chapman Boyd of Columbia, S.C., Phyllis Perrin Harris of Rogers, Ark. (Converse Class of 1982), Rose Montgomery Johnston of Memphis, Tenn., Sandra Shearouse Morelli of Atlanta, Ga. (Converse Class of 1978), and Rick Pennell of Greenville, S.C. These board members began their four-year term on July 1, 2017.
Christi Epps
Christi Epps, PharmD, is CEO of Long’s Pharmacy Solutions. She also serves as a member of the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy Walker Leadership Scholars Advisory Committee and is a member of the Fifth District Pharmaceutical Association. Epps is active in her community as a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, has served as a board member on the Northside Christian Academy Booster Club and has volunteered at the Free Medical Clinic. Epps has also been recognized for professional accomplishments with a nomination to Who’s Who Among American Female Professionals.
Marsha H. Gibbs
Marsha Gibbs is a member of the executive management team at Gibbs International, Inc. and currently serves on the board of directors for The Gibbs Foundation, Gibbs International, and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Foundation. She has previously served as a member of the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors, as Spartanburg County Chair for the Imagination Library Project, and on the Advisory Board for Citizen Scholars. She is a Founding Director of Carolina Alliance Bank.
Mary Chapman Boyd is a community leader and philanthropist who serves on the Board of Trustees for the Hammond School and has previously served on the boards of the South Carolina Philharmonic, Edventure Children’s Museum, St. Lawrence Place, and Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties.
Phyllis Perrin Harris serves as vice chair of the Converse Board of Trustees. She is General Counsel of Legal Operations and Senior Vice President for Walmart Stores, Inc. and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Environmental Law Institute, the University of Florida’s Environmental Law and Land Use Program, and the Northwest Arkansas Headstart Program.
Rose Montgomery Johnston, PhD, is a practicing psychologist who serves on the board for Dixon Gallery & Gardens. She has previously served as a board member for the Memphis College of Art and the Episcopal Church Foundation.
Sandra Shearouse Morelli is Senior Vice President and Regional Director of Capital Group Private Client Services. She serves on the board for Fernbank Museum of Natural History and has previously served on the Furman University Parents Council, as a steering committee member for Southern Employee Benefits Conference, on the investment committees of the Orange County Community Foundation and Mercy Investment Program, and as a board member for CredAbility.
Richard H. (Rick) Pennell Jr. is President and CEO of Metromont Corp. He serves on the board for Altus Group and the Clemson Center for Real Estate Development, and has previously served as a board member for Artisphere, the Greenville Symphony, the Peace Center, the YMCA, Red Cross, and Greenville Hospital Corp.
