Kool-Aid and Math: A Unique Learning Opportunity
Dr. Williams’ ‘Differential Equations’ class thought they were getting a special treat when they saw bottles of Kool-Aid on their desks in class. But it was actually an unconventional way to investigate standard mixing issues which the course explores.
Students observed the rates of water flowing into and out of two tanks both separately or simultaneously. They added kool-aid drink mix to the tanks to study how the kool-aid would combine with the fresh water as the water flowed between tanks.
