Senior Credits Converse for Empowering Women; Wins Title of Miss Summerville
Mathematics major and French minor Addie Ledbetter ’17 won the title of the 2017 Miss Summerville in the Miss Summerville Scholarship Pageant. As a titleholder, Addie will serve the community and promote her personal platform as well as the Children’s Miracle Network. Her platform, “You Text . . . You Next,” is a campaign to prevent texting while driving.
I found out that the relationships you build at Converse along with the women you get to meet from different ways of life and cultures are really beneficial.
During the onstage question portion of the competition, Addie was asked, “Why did you choose Converse College, an all-women’s college, over a co-ed college?” Ledbetter said, “I started out not wanting to go to Converse because it was an all women’s college. But I soon found out that the relationships you build at Converse along with the women you get to meet from different ways of life and cultures are really beneficial. You get to learn how to become a fantastic woman and role model in today’s society.”
Upon graduation this May, Addie plans on obtaining her Bachelors of Science in Nursing with a focus in neonatal intensive care from the Medical University of South Carolina. Her goal is to earn a Masters in Nurse Anesthesia degree and become a registered nurse anesthetist.
