Alumnae and Faculty Reunite at International Double Reed Conference
Dr. Kelly Vaneman and Dr. Chris Vaneman performed at the 2016 conference of the International Double Reed Society held at Columbus State University in Georgia. Their well-attended performance included their own arrangements of Ravel’s “Le Tombeau de Couperin” and Gershwin’s “Three Preludes.” They also performed “Spooky Does the Bunny Hop,” a duo Dr. Scott Robbins wrote especially for the Vanemans.
The International Double Reed Society (IDRS) is a world-wide organization of double reed (oboe and bassoon family) players, instrument manufacturers, and enthusiasts. The IDRS conference is the largest gathering of oboists and bassoonists in the world.
The Vanemans also worked with the IDRS Teen Camp while at the conference. They performed for the teens and discussed the process of arranging and working with composers to create a new repertoire.
Also in attendance at the conference were alumni Stephanie Lemon, ’07, BM Music Performance and Jane Patterson, ’12 & ’15, BM Music Composition, MM Music Performance. Both women studied oboe with Dr. Kelly Vaneman.
