Art Education Majors Host At-Risk Youth
Converse II art education major Lekesa Miller recently brought her 3rd-6th grade students from the Salvation Army After School program to Converse for an art workshop and tours of Milliken Fine Art Building and Milliken Art Gallery. Students in Converse’s Art for the Child class gave a lesson in three-dimensional art work and helped each participant build their own sculpture. It was a great opportunity for the youth and Converse students to work together in a college setting.
Service learning opportunities are one of the many ways Converse art education students prepare for careers after college. “It is invaluable for students who plan to become art teachers to have hands-on experiences,” says Dianne Bagnal, who teaches the class.
