Converse's Petrie School of Music to Present Opera Scenes
The Petrie School of Music’s Converse Opera program will present its annual Opera Scenes event on October 17 and 18 at 7:30 pm in Daniel Recital Hall. With music from various composers, eight opera scenes will be performed. The event is free and open to the public.
"We are hoping to provide an interesting evening of performances for the audience and a good experience for the performers as well," said Rebecca Turner, Associate Professor of Voice and Director of the Converse Opera Theatre.
Scenes to be performed come from the following operas:
• The Coronation of Poppea by Monteverdi
• Cosi fan tutte by Mozart
• Don Giovanni by Mozart
• The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart
• Madame Butterfly by Puccini
• Falstaff by Verdi
• The Rape of Lucretia by Britten
• The Dialogues of the Carmelites by Poulenc
One of the scenes will include the cast from The Mikado, a production that will be performed by the Opera Theatre on November 21, 22 and 23.
"This year, it just worked out that people that aren’t in major roles [in The Mikado] are in the opera scenes, so it gives everyone a chance to perform," said Turner.
