Women's Basketball Coaches Association to Train Converse Senior in Coaching
Senior Morgan Sacharski of Sussex WI is the captain of the Valkyries basketball team and will graduate from Converse this coming May. As the question looms for many in the senior class as to what will be their next step after graduation, Sacharski is taking a step towards what she hopes the future will hold for her.
She has been accepted in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) 2011 “So You Want To Be A Coach” program which will take place on April 1-3 in Indianapolis, IN. The program is paired with the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Final Four which starts on April 3, 2011.
“I am very excited for the opportunity and thankful for Coach Tincher’s help,” she said. “The knowledge and experience that I will gain will be extremely valuable as I look towards the future. I am excited for the trip.”
The WBCA states that the program’s purpose is to “increase the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women’s basketball, increase the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduce female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raise awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women’s basketball.”
“I’ve known from early on that Morgan is a student of the game and has the makings of a great coach,” stated Converse head basketball coach Joanna Tincher. “She has shown to be a teacher of the game, helping instruct her teammates during practice and games. She is an extension of me out on the floor, and that translates well to coaching. Throughout her career she has played every position on the floor and not only been successful at each, but embraced any role given to her while playing with extreme passion and intensity. I am very excited for Morgan to participate in this program and I know that she will get everything out of it she can to help her in getting to the next step in her life, coaching at the college level.”
Sacharski led the Valkyries on the floor this season totaling 191 points, leading the team in rebounds with 204, and dishing out a team leading 63 assists. She has accumulated an impressive 630 points, 583 rebounds, and 241 assists during her career at Converse.
