Grad Has Out of this World Experience at Her Job with National Geographic
June 26, 2017
Politics grad Hilary Koss ‘12 had a whirlwind week at her job with National Geographic. In addition to rubbing shoulders with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Hilary assisted with Nat Geo’s annual Explorers Festival. The week-long event brings together innovators and scientists with attendees, where they discuss their latest grants and even share photos of their kids.
Here’s what Hilary had to say about the experience, which she describes as the highlight of her entire year:
“My favorite part was definitely Red Planet vs. Blue Planet (aka Space Day)! I’ve had a love of space since I was a kid, and getting to discuss the ideas revolving around the next steps of space travel and exploration—and whether or not that’s even wise—with some of the most thoughtful minds in the field for the better part of a day was such a thrill! And to hear the great Neil deGrasse Tyson take great care in walking us through the cosmic view of humans of all sorts was meaningful in a way I can’t even begin to describe. It was the perfect way to end what’s been months of planning and preparation for the entire event: to be told that we are all literally, not just figuratively, stardust.”
