Converse Announces Addition of Field Hockey for 2017
Converse Athletic Director Joy Couch has announced the addition of Field Hockey to the Valkyries’ Athletic department as the 12th NCAA sponsored sport and 14th sport overall. The Field Hockey inaugural season will begin in fall 2017.
“We are thrilled to add Field Hockey as a program at Converse,” said Joy Couch. “Field Hockey will certainly bolster our continued growth as an Athletic Department and College, as we provide educational opportunities to our current and future student-athletes in which they have the ability to excel.”

Converse has been on the forefront of bringing emerging sports into the southeast region as the Valkyries added Lacrosse and Swimming in 2009, then Acrobatics and Tumbling last year.
“The addition of Field Hockey builds upon the energy and success of our great athletics program at Converse. We are excited to expand our athletics program and the ways in which our students can compete,” said President Krista Newkirk.
Converse will be one of five schools in the southeast with a NCAA Division II Field Hockey program, joining fellow Conference Carolinas members Belmont Abbey and Limestone and South Atlantic Conference members Newberry and Queens (NC). The four programs compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
A nationwide search for a head coach will begin immediately.
