Converse Tennis Overpowers Columbia
Spartanburg, S.C.— The Converse tennis team defeated Columbia College 8-1 yesterday afternoon on the road. The All-Stars are just two games under .500 with a 6-8 record. Converse has won three in a row, including 4 of the last 5 matches.
Converse swept the doubles matches taking a 3-0 lead into the singles round.
After wining the first set, #1 single player Tina Rohner dropped the second set before ultimately claiming victory in the third 10-7. Ive Jardim won the #2 slot while only dropping one game.
Rachel Wilkes picked up her first win of the spring in three sets. The freshman, who has been playing at the #3 spot all season, won the first set 6-2. Columbia’s Windy Yeager would win a tight second set 7-5. However, it would be Wilkes who dominated the tie break set 10-3 to secure the win.
Rhett Smodic and Kelsey Lambdin each won the match in the #4 and #6 spots respectively. Cordy Francis would earn the Koalas lone point in the #5 match by defeating Converse’s Lee Cantey.
The All-Stars return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Misenheimer, NC for a 3:00 pm bout with Pfeiffer University.
