Erskine Sweeps Converse
Spartanburg, S.C.— Erskine College swept the Converse tennis team 9-0 in the spring season opener for the All-Stars. Erskine, who picked first in the CVAC pre-season poll, did not concede a set in the match. Converse falls to 1-1 and 0-1 in CVAC play, while Erskine starts 2-0 and 2-0 in the CVAC. Converse defeated Columbia in the fall season.
Converse’s Tina Rohner and Rachel Wilkes, who played #1 doubles, were defeated by the duo of Jennifer Gennaoui and Kacie Knox 8-1. Converse’s #2 doubles Ive Jardin and Rhett Smodic fell to Erskine’s Ellen Dawson and Julie Mages 8-2.
Rohner forces an extra set against Erskine’s Gennaoui but fell 7-5, 6-0 in the #1 singles match. The Flying Fleet’s Dawson knocked off Jardin in the #2 singles match while Knox defeated the All-Stars’ Wilkers in the #3 singles match. Jenna Tudor beat Converse’s Smodic in the #4 singles match. Miroslaugh Stujkovic completed the sweep by defeating Lee Cantey in the #5 singles match.
Converse returns to the court on Sunday when Coker comes to town for a 1:00 pm match.
