Tigerville, S.C.— Freshmen Eboni Davis and Nikki Wood combined for ten points in the overtime period to propel North Greenville University to an 86-78 victory over Converse College Tuesday night in Hayes Gymnasium in NCAA Division II women’s basketball action. With the win, North Greenville improves to 8-9 on the season, while Converse falls to 3-19.
Sydney Brown drained a jumper from the right side, off a Crusader turnover, with one second remaining in regulation to pull Converse even with NGU at 69-69. The basket capped a 12-2 run over the last minute and a half of regulation.
North Greenville, however, owned the overtime period, out-scoring the All-Stars 17-9. Davis and Wood each made critical 3-pointers in the extra period.
Wood paced NGU with 19 points. Davis dropped 18 points and six assists. Robin Warner added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Debbie Wyatt and Samantha Frost each chipped in ten points.
Kathlyn McClain led Converse with a game-high 23 points on 7-15 shooting. Lauren Mueller scored 18 points, while Brown added ten points.
North Greenville trailed by as many as nine points in the first half. The Crusaders cut the lead to three at the 2:34 mark in the first half on a Davis lay-up, but Converse extended the lead to six points by halftime. The Crusaders took the lead at the 17:53 mark in the second half and never relinquished it.
The All-Stars will be back in action Saturday. Converse will travel to Due West, SC for a 3:00 bout with Erskine College.
