Top Seed Lees-McRae Advances to Finals
Spartanburg, SC — The top-seeded Lees-McRae Bobcats advanced to finals with a 3-1 (30-24, 30-28, 27-30, 30-21) over 5th seed Anderson University. This marks the 9th straight year Lees-McRae has been in the final of the CVAC Volleyball Tournament. The Bobcats have won the previous eight championships. Lees-McRae will play the winner of the second semi-final match between #2 Limestone College and #3 Converse College. With the loss, the Trojans conclude their season at 22-16.
Anderson University’s Leanna Willis was named to the All-Tournament team.
Lees-McRae was led by Lacie Smith with 21 kills. Daviana Metti had 13 kills and Amanda Huffaker added 8. Lauren Dickover dished out 30 assists while Trisha Reese had 28 assists. Huffaker led the team with two solo blocks and three block assists. Katie-Marie Legg had one solo block and two block assists while Cat Honey had two block assists. Tiarra Pendleton recorded 16 digs to lead the team. Smith had 14 digs and Nicole Burns added 11. Reese and Smith had four aces and three aces, respectively.
Anderson’s offense was led by Leanna Willis with 16 kills. Heather Swain added nine while Shaunte Heyward contributed with seven kills. Jessica Petrick had 35 assists in the match. Willis also led the team with 28 digs. Pedrick and Jennifer Moffitt had 19 and 16 digs respectively. Heyward led the team with seven blocks. Swain and Beth Lawson contributed with 4 and two blocks. Pedrick also had two aces. Swain and Heyward each had one ace on the night.
