Converse Knocks Off St. Andrews, Falls to Limestone
Spartanburg, SC — The Converse College All-Stars defeated the St. Andrews Knights in the quarterfinals, but fell to Upstate rival Limestone in the semi-final. This is the second year in a row Converse has advanced to the semi-final of the tournament. The All-Stars close out the season with a 22-11 record. They finished the 3rd in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) during the regular season. That mark is the highest reached in the team’s history.
Converse vs. St. Andrews
The Converse College All-Stars thwarted a strong comeback by St. Andrews Presbyterian College to advance to the semi-finals of the 2006 CVAC Volleyball Tournament. Converse will face Limestone College in the second semi-final.
In game one, Converse appeared to be cruising to a place in the semi-final. After exchanging points to start the game, Converse opened up a lead of points courtesy of a 6-1 run. The All-Stars would never look back and won the first game handily by a score of 30-19.
Converse would pick up where they left off in game 2. After falling behind early 4-2, Converse went of an 8-1 run to take a 10-5 lead. St. Andrews would battle back to get within one at 15-14, but that would be as close as they would get. The All-Stars would again build a cushion, this time of 4 points. That would be all they needed as Converse won game 2 by the score of 30-26.
In game 3, the two teams would virtually match each other point for point. With the scoreboard reading 22-20 in favor of St. Andrews, the two teams had already been tied 12 times in the game. St. Andrews was holding on to a slight one point lead at 25-24 before finishing the game off with a 5-1 run.
Game 4 carried all the dramatics of game 3.
