Warren Wilson Knocks Off Converse

Spartanburg, SC — Warren Wilson College defeated Converse College 3-0 this afternoon at Hayden Abney Fulp Field. With the loss, Converse drops to 2-14 on the season. Warren Wilson improves to 7-6 on the season.

The first half was fairly even match. Warren Wilson got on the board in the 26th minute when Natalie Epstein stripped a Converse defender of the ball at midfield and carried the ball in on a breakaway before blasting the ball past the keeper. The Owls went up 2-0 via a penalty kick. Amy Witt buried the spot kick. Warren Wilson took the 2-0 lead into halftime.

Christy Barron scored the final goal of the match when her shot slipped through the hands of the keeper. Converses had some chances but were unable to finish. The All-Stars also had eight corners but did not convert any those. The Owls posted 17 shots and had three corners. Rachel Schonberg went the distance for Warren Wilson to earn the shutout. Kaitlyn Price recorded 6 saves on the night.

Converse will host Presbyterian College on Monday afternoon. Kick-off is set for 4:00 pm.
