Converse Splits Weekend of CVAC Action
Spartanburg, SC — The Converse College volleyball team split a pair of CVAC matches this weekend. The All-Stars defeated Queens University Friday night in Charlotte (30-25, 30-22, 30-19). Converse dropped their second match of the weekend to Coker College (30-22, 30-23, 24-30, 26-30, 12-15).
On Friday evening, Converse swept the match against Queens University. Elizabeth Roberds led the way offensively with 10 kills. She also added 13 digs. Sarah Javdan-Inaloo added 9 kills while Lauren Mueller had 8 on the night. Mueller recorded 3.5 blocks for the match. Brittney Ogez dished out 35 assists and had 14 digs. Sally Crossley led the team in digs with 17.
The All-Stars dropped Saturday’s bout against visiting Coker College by the narrowest of margins. Converse won first two games and seemed to be on their way to victory. However, Coker came battling back. After the two teams saw their fourth tie of the game at 6-6, Coker would pull out to a 13-8 lead. The five point edge was all the Cobras needed to take game 3 and begin their impressive come-back. In game 4, the All-Stars would fall behind 17-12. But Converse would show a little resilience as well. They would take a 21-19 lead and looked to be in the driver’s seat again. The All-Stars lead would be short lived. The Cobras took the lead again at 23-21 and would force a pivotal game 5. The Cobras jumped out to a 11-3 lead in the fifth game. However, the comeback theme would present itself again. The All-Stars rallied back to get within one point at 13-12. That would be a close as Converse would get and the Cobras won the last game 15-12.
The Converse All-Stars take to the court tomorrow as they host Anderson University. The All-Stars won the first meeting 3-0. After the weekend, Converse’s record stands at 12-7 (7-3 CVAC).
