North Georgia Tops Converse
Spartanburg, SC — North Georgia College & State University defeated Converse College 5-0 this evening in women’s soccer action. With the loss, Converse drops to 2-8. The Lady Saints get over .500 and improve 5-4-1.
Nina Carter started the scoring for the visiting side in the 25th minute. Carter headed home a Katie Caughell cross. Despite outshooting the All-Stars 17-5 in the first half, North Georgia would only take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Lauren Cappy would pick up the first of her three goals when netted a Kelly Curran pass. Curran collected the ball after Converse was unable to clear the ball. In the 63rd minute, North Georgia would be awarded a penalty kick. However, All-Stars keeper Kaitlyn Price was up to the challenge and thwarted the attempt. Cappy would get second of the night from a Kelly Orear cross to give the Lady Saints a 3-0 lead.
In the 75th minute, the Lady Saints would again strike from a cross. This time it would be Lauren Hughes finding Kelsey Webb. Just two minutes from full time, Cappy would complete the hat trick as Caughell picked up her second assist of the evening.
North Georgia posted 43 shots while the All-Stars recorded 6 on the night. Converse will travel to take on Pfeiffer College this Saturday in Misenheimer, NC. Kick off is set for 2:00 pm.
