Mueller Named CVAC Volleyball Player of the Week
Thomasville, NC — Lauren Mueller, a senior middle blocker from Converse College, has been selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) women’s volleyball Player of the Week in the second week of the 2006 season. Mueller becomes the first All-Stars athlete to be named a CVAC Player of the Week. Converse is currently competing in its second season in the CVAC, which will be renamed Conference Carolinas next season.
Mueller led Converse to an outstanding 3-0 record for the week that included three conference wins for the All-Stars. The team stands at 7-3 overall and on top of the CVAC at 3-0. For the week, the Foley, AL native totaled 27 kills in nine games for a .366 hitting percentage. Her peak performance came against Mount Olive, last years defending regular season champions, where she accounted for 9 kills, 3 aces, 2 solo blocks, and a .368 hitting percentage. In the two other wins against Anderson and Barton, she continued her torrid pace, finishing with a .393 hitting percentage while accumulating five blocks.
Although Mueller becomes the first athlete to pick up Player of the Week Honors, she is not new to receiving CVAC Honors. In her junior season, Mueller was tabbed as a CVAC Honorable Mention for her success on the court. She was also named to this year’s CVAC Preseason Players to Watch List. Looking ahead, Converse will again have three CVAC matches for the week, as they take on Coker, Limestone, & St. Andrews who combined have just once total CVAC loss.
